Canmore home away from home

It’s becoming a tradition in our family that sometime after Christmas we grab our skis and snowshoes and head into the back-country for a couple of days to relax, unwind and enjoy a winter camping experience with a few other local families in one of the Alpine Club of Canada’s back country huts. Last year we chose a fairly easy trip and stayed at Wheeler Hut for a couple of nights last March. This year we decided to kick it up a notch and see how the kids would handle a 12km ski up over a mountain pass and into a hut. On January 9th my two boys and myself stuffed a back pack each full of clothes, food and sleeping bags and headed from Canmore to the Lower Kananaskis Lakes to start our trip into Elk Lake cabins with four other Canmore families. My wife decided that she’d let the boys and myself go by ourselves this year (I think she just wanted to spend some time by herself after a busy Christmas at home with the three of us). New Years Day in Canmore
What a way to ring in 2012 in Canmore!
New Year’s Eve was a great night at the pond for the kids with fireworks at 9:30pm for them and then another incredible light show at midnight, I have to say, the Town of Canmore always does an incredible job organizing the big events and the fireworks seem to get better and better every year! Thank you Town of Canmore for such a great job and making everyone in town proud to call Canmore home. Read the rest of this entry »
Canmore Lifestyle :: Salty Dog 2011
This past weekend saw the annual migration of Canmore families to Salmon Arm, British Columbia for a fun weekend of camping and mountain bike racing in the warmth of Interior British Columbia.
About a four and half hour drive West from Canmore, the Salty Dog mountain bike race in Salmon Arm has become an annual fixture on many of our calendars for the first race and opportunity to camp for the season. Skookum Cycle in Salmon Arm do an incredible job of organizing and hosting this race on one of, if not the most fun course you have the pleasure of riding your mountain bike on for the season. When signing up for this event you have two options, 1. sign up as a solo rider and ride the full 6 hour race by yourself or 2. sign up as a two man team and race the 6 hour race as a team and take it in turn to do laps. I chose to race solo for the 6 hours.
